Press Coverage
Brian Macy, Horsepower Connection, and The EFI Store — in print, on video, and on the dyno. From a Ridler Award-winning show car to record-setting Drag Week builds.
Three custom shops keep coming back. All three buy their parts here, and most of the tuning happens over the internet — with plenty of tuning shops closer to home. Some cars are worth showing up for in person; the rest get dialed in remotely, and distance stopped mattering a while ago.
Sultan, Washington · on site and remote tuning
25 of their 30 builds, including every car currently on their floor — the ’64 Corvette, ’36 Willys, ’67 Super Nova, ’61 Corvette and K-20 truck. The five we did not touch run carburetors. In person for Ferrambo — the 2008 Ridler Award winner — the ’54 Chevy and the GT39; the rest tuned over the internet. See the work ›
Cave Creek, Arizona · on site and remote tuning
Ten builds — the ’51 Oldsmobile 88, ’61 Chevrolet Blazer, ’69 Camaro RS ZL1, ’39 Lincoln Zephyr, ’59 Cadillac Convertible, ’60 Cadillac, ’64 Lincoln Convertible, ’33 Ford, ’51 Beetle and the ’61 23-window Micro Bus. More than half of them were on our dyno or being driven around town back when SIC Chops was based here in Lake Havasu. They moved to Cave Creek and kept sending us the work. The Blazer took Goodguys Top 5 Gold at SEMA 2016 and Top 10 Builders Choice at Goodguys Scottsdale; the ’59 Cadillac ran in Street Rodder, December 2015. See the work ›
Lake Stevens, Washington · on site and remote tuning
Six builds — the ’33 Ford, ’51 Chevrolet 3100, ’57 Cameo, ’66 Chevelle, ’74 Bronco and the ’85 square-body K30. The ’51 Chevy 3100 took First Place in Class and Outstanding Interior Truck at the 2026 Boise Roadster Show. See the work ›

Ferrambo took the Ridler Award in 2008 with a MoTeC system wired by Brian Macy — and it was not a one-off. Divers Street Rods of Sultan, Washington have used him on 25 of their 30 builds since, from the Jeepster and the GT39 to every car currently on their floor. See our EFI work with Divers Street Rods.

Read ›Brian raced on both of Speed Channel’s Pinks shows. Pinks All Out was the bracket format with no car on the line — he ran the Nova at Woodburn, Oregon and Seattle. The original Pinks raced for pink slips, and for that one the team built an ’80 Malibu on turbo EFI in three weeks to take on a Canadian team.
KING 5, the Seattle news station, caught Brian’s burnout in the Nova at a one-weekend nostalgia race in Shelton, Washington. That car is the same Turbo Nova he runs today — back then a single turbo small block Chevy making 1,800 hp on gas, now a twin turbo Hemi on methanol.

Chevrolet put the COPO Camaro back into production for 2012 as a purpose-built NHRA Stock Eliminator car. Cagnazzi Racing — the NHRA Pro Stock team owned by Victor Cagnazzi — ran the track vehicle validation for the program under the direction of GM Racing, with Pro Stock driver Dave Connolly in the seat. Brian Macy installed the FAST XFI system in the car and tuned it for the team. The testing footage below is his own.

Big Red is RJ Gottlieb’s 1969 Camaro — 2,000 horsepower, a racing legend since 1987, and at 266 mph the fastest Camaro in the world. It has won La Carrera Classic and the Silver State Classic, and magazines have covered it since Hot Rod put it in print in 1989.
Brian Macy joined the crew around 2014 and is listed on Big Red’s own race crew page as its Supercharger / Forced Induction Consultant — with Heather listed alongside him under The EFI Store. He has been trackside for the standing mile, Pikes Peak and Bonneville, including the car’s 253 mph record run at the Mojave Mile. That run was made on a blow-through carburetor on E85 behind a ProCharger, which Brian looked after trackside — and straight after that event, the car went to EFI.
The new combination went straight into the record books. In April 2018 Big Red ran 266.2 mph at the Mojave Magnum — the number Big Red still quotes as the fastest Camaro in the world — on what the team called breaking in the new engine. Later the same year it took the AA/CBFALT record at Bonneville.
Big Red has run six engines, and Brian’s years cover three of them: The Elephant, a supercharged 598 Brodix on a ProCharger and a blow-through carburetor; The Beast, built in 2017 for Pikes Peak at 940 horsepower on Holley EFI with Edelbrock fuel injection, Racepak and MSD ignition; and the 565 Elephant 2, which makes 2,000 horsepower on EFI. Four of those names are brands we sell every day. The engines of Big Red › See the crew ›
Walt Austin was the greatest mentor Brian Macy ever had. A Washington drag racing legend, Walt built the engines and ran the team behind his son Pat Austin — a four-time NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car champion who took 70 of his 75 national event wins in the class, and the first driver ever to win two categories at the same national event, doubling up in Top Fuel and Alcohol Funny Car in 1991. NHRA called him the most successful drag racer born after the 1940s.
Walt and his brother Buckey owned Black Betty, the twin turbo 1941 Willys Pro Mod. Brian put it together, tuned it and drove it — and the connection never ended. Brian and Heather remain close friends of the Austins to this day; he still helps them with their chassis dyno and travels to Tacoma to run cars on it. Pat’s son Drew races NHRA nostalgia funny car today.
“That’s my dad, the best tuner out there.” Michael Austin, on his father Walt

Marine tuning is over half of what we do. EFI on the water is its own discipline — different loads, different cooling, no coasting to the return road if something is off. And the job does not finish on the dyno: trackside support is part of the service, so Brian goes to the races and looks after the team through the weekend.
“Wild Thing” is Rick Blethroade’s Top Fuel hull, run in both Pro Outlaw and Pro Mod. Brian did the EFI tuning, supplied the parts and ran trackside support through its twin turbo alcohol big block Chevy years — a 5.31 at 179 mph among them. It runs a different engine today.
