8HP DODGE Charger/Challenger Thermostatic transmission cooler adapter

HPR Tuning partnered with the American company Improved Racing to create the first bolt-on transmission fluid adapter with a thermostat for the 8HP transmissions found in 2012+ Ram 1500 trucks. It includes adapter sleeves for transmissions with 17 mm and 18.5 mm unthreaded ports.

The built-in thermostat automatically bypasses the transmission cooler until the fluid reaches 160°F. That stops the rough shifts caused by over-cooled transmission fluid, reduces wear, and improves efficiency and horsepower. The transmission reaches operating temperature quickly even with a large aftermarket cooler — so you get the cooling capacity without giving up drivability.

The adapter uses -8AN male connections for aftermarket AN lines.

Important application notes

• The adapter can only be used together with an external transmission fluid cooler.
• It does not connect directly to the factory lines — aftermarket AN lines are required.
• It will only resolve rough shifting when that shifting is caused by over-cooling of the transmission, usually after a larger aftermarket cooler has been fitted.

Temperature rating

The 160°F rating is the one recommended for most applications.
